There was fireworks aplenty as the 2020 MotoGP season finally moved from the virtual world and hit the track in Jerez.

After a strong opening exchange it looked like the reigning World Champion, Marc Marquez was set to check out and leave Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha SRT) and the rest of the pack behind until coming unstuck.

The REPSOL Honda rider ran wide in the exit of turn 3 at high speed yet Marquez somehow managed to hold the slide and ride out the gravel into last position. After a huge and aggressive display of amazing riding, Marc managed to carve through the field and into a podium position. Unfortunately it was not to be as turn 3 again caught Marquez out but in a much bigger way this time. The bike went into a big slide before launching Marc through the air in a vicious high side.

After crashing heavily on the exit of Turn 3 in the latter stages of the Gran Premio Red Bull de España, Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) has been diagnosed with a fractured right humerus. Marc flew to Barcelona and underwent surgery which went well but it will be some time till he is fit to ride leaving a seat open in the REPSOL paddock.
