Marc Marquez – Emotional MotoGP Return
In his long awaited return to the main stage, Marc Marquez struggled through the pain to achieve a hugely impressive 7th in what was a very challenging weekend for a lot of high profile riders.
Following an impressive 6th in qualifying, the main goal for Marquez was simply to finish as going the full race distance would still be a painful challenge. When the lights went out, Marc Marquez was the centre of attention as he shot forward from sixth and immediately began to battle inside the top three. The fighting was fierce, and a still-recovering Marquez found himself forced to ease the intensity of his fight. Settling into his rhythm, the #93 worked to hold his spot in the top ten while avoiding any costly mistakes.
All around him, there was a war of attrition with many of the top riders falling victim to the heat and high pace racing over the twisty, undulating Portimao circuit. Miller, Zarco, Rossi, Rins, Pol and more all had weekends to forget.
When the dust settled, Marc finally saw the chequered flag for the first time since 2019 and secured his first points in 518 days! The emotions came flooding out as Marc returned to the pit box, a mix of sheer relief mixed with the months of recovery and the overwhelming amount of support shown by family, friends, crew and fans overy the many months since his accident.
The MotoGP World Championship now takes a week away from the circuit before returning for round four in Jerez. For both Marc Marquez and Pol Espargaro, the weekend presents a chance to continue their respective journeys and show even more of the potential of the RC213V.
