Overview
The all-new Honda BF250 outboard engine takes Honda into the next power range. The flagship BF250 combines a new VTEC 3.6L 24 Valve EFI engine with the worlds first direct air induction system in an outboard - designed to reduce intake air temperature and increase air volume to the engine - to deliver outstanding overall performance and best-in-class fuel economy.
A powerful, compact 24 valve SOHC design, without the bulk and weight of long intake runners and multi-camshafts. The narrow V6 design offers top performance and durability as well as great fuel economy.
Honda's Variable Valve Timing & Lift Electronic Control - VTEC system provides power on demand. VTEC gives you a broader, flatter torque curve and smooth power delivery throughout the engine's operating range. The result is a superior combination of power, torque and fuel economy.
The heart of the BF250 is Honda"s Engine Control Module. This manages all engine functions such as the variable air intake, ignition timing and idling speed. It also pilots the engine alert system in case of low oil pressure, over-heating, over-revving and water contamination in fuel for total worry-free boating.
Standard features on the BF250 is an air feedback sensor and Honda's industry exclusive Lean Burn Feedback System. This reduces fuel consumption by five per cent over the previous models. Furthermore according to internal factory tests, fuel consumption is reduced by 14% over direct injection 2-stroke models and 10% over competing 4-stroke models.
The BF250's charging system features a 90 amp "On Demand" belt-driven alternator with a continuous 60 amp charge rating. This superior design reduces heat buildup and provides outstanding battery charging across the RPM range
Thanks to the 60 degree V6 engine and its sleek streamline design, the BF250 will suit a broad variety of boats, in single or twin applications.
VTEC Technology
Available on the BF250 and derived from our racing heritage, Honda's Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control system (VTEC) achieves the best of both worlds by utilising mild cam lobes to operate the intake valves at low RPM-then, at 4,500 RPM, engaging a "high output" cam lobe for high RPM operation, ensuring smooth power delivery throughout the engine's entire operating range.
Minimum Consumption
Next generation Lean Burn Control increases fuel efficiency by allowing the engine to operate on a leaner air/fuel mixture. The result is improved fuel economy.

Technology:
World Famous Quality. By sharing many components with the Honda Odyssey automobile, the BF250 gains years of proven Honda engineering and reliability.
Large Displacement 3.5 Litre 60° V6.A powerful, compact 24 valve SOHC design. Lacking the bulk and weight of long intake runners and multi-camshafts, the narrow V6 design offers all the performance and durability based on Honda automotive engineering excellence.
VTEC - Honda"s Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control system (VTEC) achieves the best of both worlds by utilising mild cam lobes to operate the intake valves at low RPM-then, at 4,500 RPM, engaging a "high output" cam lobe for high RPM operation. VTEC offers a superior blend of power, torque and fuel efficiency.
BLAST® - Boosted Low Speed Torque improves acceleration at low speeds. A quick movement of the throttle control activates the BLAST® system, advancing the ignition timing aggressively. "Hole Shot" is vastly improved as more horsepower gets the hull up on plane quicker.
4-Front Corrosion Protection - A patented, "Double Sealed" multi-layered paint process. Sacrificial anodes and stainless steel technology, along with waterproof connectors, all enhance corrosion protection
Industry-first separate dual air circuits. The first is used to cool the engine where air is drawn into the front of the engine and circulated around critical engine components. A top mounted cooling fan draws cooling air over the alternator. The second intake circuit draws in cool air from the upper intake vents, separates out moisture, and then inducts it into the throttle body. This system provides cooler, denser air for better combustion as compared to conventional under-cowl induction systems.
Tuned Dual Exhaust. The competition's exhaust track goes through the middle of the oil pan, pre-heating the oil. Honda's dual exhaust headers wrap around the outside of the oil pan, which not only reduces heat build-up, but also increases engine efficiency and performance!
Performance/Usability:
Shift Load Reduction - The technologically-advanced Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in the Honda BF250 can predict the operator's shifting operation based on changes in engine speed and throttle position. In order to reduce the shifting load, the ECU controls the engine ignition timing to modify torque when the operator shifts from partial to neutral.
Dual Stage Induction. Honda's variable intake system utilises a plenum chamber with twin butterfly valves to control the volume of intake air into the combustion chambers. The result is a simple, compact design that improves overall operation
Even at the largest displacement in its class it also features the lowest idle speed, 650rpm
Patented non-linear mounting provides smoother operation at all engine speeds
Fresh water flushport allows easy freshwater flushing of the engine, extending the life of the outboard
Standard extra long and ultra long shaft lengths allow for a wider range of boat applications. Counter rotation models also available for dual installations
Lean Burn Feedback Control. Utilises a Linear Air-Fuel Sensor, along with the Engine Command Module, to automatically adjust the air-fuel mix according to speed and load " maximising power throughout the RPM range and providing 20% greater fuel economy in the cruise mode from 2000 to 4500 RPM Inclusion of Lean Burn Feedback Control offers 14% improved fuel consumption over Direct Injection 2-stroke models and 10% over competing 4-stroke models
NMEA2000 - Honda's new generation ECU incorporates NMEA2000 capabilities. This allows the all new BF250 to be instantly connected to any existing or new NMEA2000 network, allowing up-to-date fuel usage, engine data and diagnostic codes to be viewed on a range of devices.
Peace of Mind:
"On Demand" 90 Amp, belt-driven alternator reduces heat build up and provides superior batter charging capability.
Engine Alert System. With Honda"s Engine Alert System, the ECM monitors vital engine functions and prevents engine damage by alerting the operator of overheating, low oil pressure, water in fuel, battery condition and critical engine functions
Environmental Performance. The BF250 achieves outstanding clean exhaust performance that exceeds both the U.S EPA 2006 and CARB emission regulations for 2008 -the most stringent emissions standards in the world.
Voluntary Emission Labelling Scheme (VELS) based on international emission regulations to assist the consumer in making better informed choices when purchasing an outboard engine.
